WELL CHILD CARE

Childhood is a beautiful time for every individual. It is the age of rapid growth and change as the development and growth are faster in childhood. Well child visits play a key role in their growth and development. Well-child care or visits are those where parents can check about their child’s health, growth and development. These visits give clear information and make sure that they’re growing in a healthy manner. Well-child care generally starts from the babies at an age of 3-5 days and are continued up to the age of 21 years. Well-child care visits can be scheduled with a pediatrician or else with your Family doctor.

Importance of Well-Child Visits:

• Tracking growth and development.
• Prevention of illness.
• Raising concerns. 

Every check-up includes a total physical examination, where the doctor or health care provider may check for the child’s growth and development and identify any health problems or prevent the same. The information on certain topics like Sleep, Childhood diseases, Safety should be noted. They will note the child’s weight, height, behavioral parameters and other information like vision, hearing and movements etc.

Ask your doctor or pediatrician about the body mass index (BMI) curve; this curve is mainly useful for preventing obesity and identifying malnutrition. You may also discuss with the doctor other wellness related issues like school, family relationship, and access to community services. Even if your child is healthy, these visits help us to focus on child’s wellness. 

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Schedule of Well-Child Visits is as follows

• The first-week visit (3 to 5 days old)
• 1 month to 30 months on alternative months
• Once every year from 3 years to 21 years

Along with these, you should call or visit a doctor whenever the baby or child seems ill or anytime you are worried about the baby’s health or development.
